What We Believe

The Bible       2 Timothy 3:16-17      We believe the Scriptures of both the Old and New
2 Peter 1:20-21          Testaments are inspired by God and therefore error-
Hebrews 4:12            free in the original writings. Being God’s written voice,
the Bible is the unique and trustworthy authority for faith
and practice. Through its instruction, the believer in Jesus
Christ receives wisdom for living and is equipped for every
                                                       good work.

God             Deuteronomy 6:4           We believe there is but one true and living God. He
Psalm 103:8                  is one in essence, while eternally existing in three
John 14:16-17                distinct personalities: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God is the Creator and sovereign Ruler of the universe. He
is infinite and holy, righteous and merciful, almighty and loving
                                                       –  worthy of our trust, our love, our obedience, and our worship.

The Father     Matthew 6:9, 31-33    God the Father graciously cares for all His creation
John 5:19-24              and lovingly seeks to draw all people to a personal
Ephesians 1:3-6         relationship with Himself. He hears and answers
Romans 8:28             prayer, works in all situations to bring about what is good, and
John 14:6                  saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

The Son        John 1:1-3,14-18        Jesus Christ is both the eternal Son of God and the
Colossians 2:9           virgin-born Son of man. He is fully God and fully
1 Cor. 15:3-8              man. Having lived a sinless life, He paid the penalty for
Hebrews 2:17-18        the sins of all mankind through His substitutionary death on
Romans 3:24-26        the cross. He was buried and then bodily raised from the dead.
2 Cor. 5:14-15           He physically ascended to Heaven and will one day visibly return.

The Holy        John 3:1-8                 The Holy Spirit is the Presence of God with us. It is His work that
Spirit             John 16:5-15              draws a person to faith in Christ and that brings about a re-birth,
Romans 8:9               resulting in a new creation. He indwells the life of each believer from
1 Cor. 6:19                  the moment a person becomes a follower of Christ.
1 Cor. 12:4-7               He reveals truth, convicts of sin, glorifies the Son, empowers believers
Galatians 5:16-25        for Christ-like living, and bestows spiritual gifts on all believers to equip
the church for its various ministries.

The Nature    Genesis 1:26-27          We believe that man was directly created in the image of God for
of Man           Genesis 2:7                a loving relationship with God. Having been given the capacity
Genesis 3:1-6             to make his own choices, he chose to act in personal
Romans 1:18-32         disobedience to the will of God and sin entered the human race.
Romans 3:10-20, 23    That historic fall resulted in all men being born with a sinful
Ephesians 2:1-3          nature which is inevitably expressed in sinful acts of thought, word
and deed. Consequently, all men are spiritually dead, alienated from
God, incapable of redeeming themselves, and without hope – both
now and for eternity – apart from Jesus Christ.

Salvation     John 14:6                    We believe that salvation is found only in a personal relationship
Titus 3:4-7                   with Jesus Christ. He died for all, providing in His sacrificial death
Acts 4:12                    the once-for-all atonement for every sin – past, present, and future.
Romans 3:21-26          All who receive Him are declared justified by the Father on the
Eph. 1:3-7; 2:8-9          grounds of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Salvation can never be
1 John 5:11-13             earned; it can only be accepted as the gift of God, bestowed by
John 1:12; 3:16;           grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The believer is forever secure
5:24;10:28-29      as an adopted member of God’s family and has the assurance
1 Peter 1:3-5               of eternal life. Although the old nature remains in the believer
Galatians 5:16            throughout his life on earth, he is no longer in bondage to sin as
1 Corinthians 10:13      before. The salvation that guarantees the believer’s future in
Romans 8:35-39         heaven also enables him to be an over-comer in the battle with
                                                       temptation.

The Church   Hebrews 10:24-25        We believe that all who have received Jesus Christ belong to the
Matthew 28:18-20        church as a whole  (described in Scripture as the Body of Christ)
Acts 2:41-47               and are also directed by Scripture to associate themselves in
Ephesians 4:11-16       local churches. The purpose of the local church is to glorify God
1 Corinthians 12:7        through worship, through leading others to Christ and maturing
them in the faith, and through the exercise of Christ-like love for
one another. The ministry of the church is carried out through the
exercise of the spiritual gifts bestowed by the Holy Spirit. Since
each believer has received at least one such gift, the ministry is to
be shared by all the members. Pastors have the responsibility of
a shepherd – providing leadership and oversight as they are led by
the Holy Spirit.  Each local church is autonomous.

Baptism        Matthew 28:18-20        Baptism is a symbolic expression of a new believer’s commitment
Romans 6:4                to Christ.  It does not save a person, but it is an act of great
importance as a public declaration of one’s faith. It is a “first step”
for the follower of Jesus Christ, announcing that “self ownership”
has ended and one now belongs to the living Lord!  Baptism involves
full immersion. (The word “baptism” comes from a Greek word that
only has one meaning: to immerse.) The act of immersion is a
portrayal of burial and resurrection. It is a visual statement of what
a person believes about Jesus – that having died for our sins, He was
buried and raised again. It also pictures what the new believer has
experienced by placing his trust in Jesus. That person has died to
the life he previously lived without Christ and has begun a new life
                                                       with Christ.

The Lord’s     Matthew 26:26-30       The elements of the Lord’s Supper – the bread and the cup – are
Supper          Mark 14:22-26            symbolic of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. Therefore, participating in the
Luke 22:14-20            Supper is an act of great significance for the believer. It is first and
1 Cor. 11:17-34           foremost an act of worship – remembering Jesus’ redemptive death.
Secondly, it is an expression of our fellowship with one another in Christ.
Anyone who has received Jesus as Savior and Lord and who comes with
a heart that honors Him is invited to partake of the Lord’s Supper with us.

The Future    John 14:1-3                We believe the next great event of human history will be the personal
Acts 1:9-11                return of Jesus Christ. This is  the BLESSED HOPE eagerly awaited
Titus 2:13                   by all those who love Him. Though the time of Christ’s return is
1 Thess. 4:15-17         known only to the Father, the certainty that He  will come again
Matthew 24:36            is as sure as His first coming. His return will bring an end to all
Revelation 21:1           rebellion and there will be “a new heaven and a new earth.”   God will
reign and all who have been redeemed by His grace will be with Him
                                                      for eternity.
